Satellite Images
This is an image of the North Dakota-South Dakota area captured
by the GOES 8 satellite on March 7, 1997. The white lines are state
and water boundaries. In this image you can see the extensive snow cover over
the Red River Valley.

Here is an image from March 26. The small image to the right is a closeup of
the Red River Valley. The dark area near the top is Grand Forks, the one near
the bottom if Fargo. You can see the river and roadways in the image. The
image at left is of all of North and South Dakota. The state and water
boundaries have been left out
on this image for clarity. As you can see, the snow pack is rapidly melting.
You can click on the larger image to download the full resolution version of it,
but be aware, this is a 1.2 Megabyte image, so it may take some time to download
over a modem.

Here is an image from March 31.

This image is from April 16. Notice the snow pack is nearly gone,
and the rivers are quite wide!
